On Saturday, May 12, First Lady Michelle Obama delivered the commencement address at North Carolina A&T State University. Among the advice she bestowed to this year’s graduates were the following three questions:
1. Who do I want to be?
2. What’s going on in the world around me?
3. How can I help?
Her speech was grounded in the history of the civil rights movement, and yet its quotes (including the one below) had applicability to civic leadership today:
“We’ve got a responsibility to live up to the legacy of those who came before us by doing all that we can to help those who come after us.”
